Have you ever wondered what the world would be like if everyone was just like you? Recently my pastor made the statement “What kind of world would this be if everyone was like you?”. That simple statement made me begin to examine my life. I began to ask myself questions like “Would the world be good? Would everyone be kind? Generous?”. Take a moment and just think about what this world would be like if everyone was like you.

Now that you’ve had time to consider that. Let’s look at how God has called us to live. Then we can compare what a world full of the current us would look like versus what a world of the people we were called to be would look like. In order to do that let’s dive into what the Bible says about how we should live.

Don’t Be Mean

Ephesians 4:29-32 ESV

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Let us examine what Paul is telling us about how we should live. Are you kind, tender-hearted? Do you forgive others as God forgave you? Or are you tearing down others with your words? As Christians, we are called to build each other up. To give grace to others. We should not be filled with bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor or slander. If these are things people could say about you. You may need to re-examine how you are living. That is not how we were called to live.

Tell The Truth

Ephesians 4:25 ESV

Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

Paul is telling us that we shouldn’t lie one to another. We need to put away falsehoods and speak the truth. Satan is the father of all lies. If you are lying then you are taking after Satan and not God. Sounds a little harsh put so bluntly but that’s the truth. Now that does not mean if you accidentally lie that you are serving Satan. But if you are blatantly lying and feel no remorse, you may need to examine your life.

Be Holy

Romans 12:1-2 ESV

I appeal to you, therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

So in this passage, Paul is telling us that we need to be holy. Christians should not be looked at as the rest of the world is looked at. We should be set apart. People should be able to tell you apart from people who are not saved. There needs to be something different about you that separates you from the world. Christians should strive to renew our mind and be transformed by the trails we face. All so that we can discern the good, acceptable and perfect will of God.

Don’t Give Up

Ephesians 6:10 ESV

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

Last but not least, don’t give up. Stay strong in the Lord. He will provide your every need. Just because you are facing troubles in life now, does not mean that you are not in the Will of God. My pastor has been preaching on “Struggles” the last two Wednesdays reminding us that life will not always be easy.

Just because we have given our lives to God, does not mean that everything will go our way. We will face struggles. For many different reasons. It may be to help us grow as a person. To grow into the blessing that God has in store for us on the other side of the trail. Do not give up on Him. He knows the end plan and His plans for us are for us to have life and have it more abundantly. This may mean we have to have some things cut out of our lives to make room for the bigger blessing.

When considering a world just like you, would the world be better off? Or would the world be worse off if everyone was just like you? We should all strive to be the people God called us to be. Sometimes in order to realize our areas of weakness, we need to invision a world full of ourselves. So next time you are looking for ways to improve yourself and be the person God called you to be. Stop and think of what this world would be like if every person was just like you.
