In the last week, many events have been canceled, stores and restaurants have closed, and many people have even been sent home from their places of work. As a result, many are finding themselves with more free time than they have ever had before. For most of us, our schedules have been completely wiped and we are left with no option but to stay in our homes. Christians should choose to view this newly found free time as a gift and use it for good.

Don’t waste this extra time you have been given but make the best use of it you can. Use it to do the things that you have put off for so long. Or that you have just not given the time they deserve because you have been so busy with other things. Things that due to our current circumstances are no longer able to take your time. Be wise and use this time to do good things that glorify the Lord.

Ephesians 5:15–16 (ESV)

15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.

Christians should not spend all this time they have been given serving the world but serving God! This time should not be used for marathoning through tv show after tv show. Nor should it be used to endlessly scroll through social media feeds. This is not the time to catch up on the world but to catch up with God. Take the time you have been given and give it to the Lord as a sacrificial offering.

Spend time reading and studying His inspired word. Storing it on your heart and building up your knowledge of Him. Spend real time in prayer and talk to your Heavenly Father laying out all that is on your heart. Honor God with praise of your lips. Use this time for good and serve the Lord like never before because now you have all the time to do so.

Joshua 1:8 (ESV)

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Psalm 119:11 (ESV)

11  I have stored up your word in my heart,

that I might not sin against you.

Philippians 4:6 (ESV)

6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

Hebrews 13:15 (ESV)

15 Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.

Christians really only have two choices. They can either spend all the free time they now find themselves with to be partakers of the things of the world. Or they can choose to serve God and spend all the time they can with Him while they have more free time than they ever have before. The option you fall into will be the truest sign of your faith.

Those who truly love God will spend their time with Him. Trying to grow closer to Him and bring glory to His name. While those who don’t truly love God will not choose to spend their time with Him. Instead, they will choose to chase after the world because that is what they truly love.

1 John 2:15 (ESV)

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

My prayer is that every Christian will realize that they do not have any excuse to not spend more time in scripture, prayer, and worship. Many of us now have more free time than we ever have and this time should not be wasted because it won’t last. Time like this is rare and it should be used for good. Choose to offer you time up to God and grow in your relationship with Him.
