At times it is easy to fall into a rut as a Christian. To feel as though you are giving it all you have in service to God but getting nowhere. As if your tires are just spinning in the mud sinking deeper and deeper. While it is easy to feel this way, know that this feeling never matches reality. No matter what you are doing for God, big or small, it is serving a purpose and is never useless!

The word of God tells us this plainly. Making sure to remind every single Christian that any work they do for the Lord is never in vain. It always has a purpose and because that is the case we should always continue to move forward. Doing what the Lord has called us to do even when it feels like it’s for all nothing.

1 Corinthians 15:58 (ESV)

58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

We are not always going to see a purpose to the work we are doing for God, but that in no way means what we are doing is useless. What you are doing is having an impact even when you can’t see it. Every part of the body matters and is needed to help the body function properly. And God has placed you right where He wants you to best accomplish His will.

1 Corinthians 12:14–21 (ESV)

14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.”

Just as no part of the human body is useless, no member of God’s church is useless. The Lord has given every believer a special gift. A gift meant to help others and have an impact both in the church and in the world. Every gift is important and even necessary to the success of the church.

1 Corinthians 12:7–11 (ESV)

7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

Romans 12:6–8 (ESV)

6 Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; 7 if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; 8 the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

1 Peter 4:10–11 (ESV)

10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

God is using every single one of us whether we are able to see it or not. So don’t feel like you are stuck and that you bring nothing to the church. Know that God will use all the work you do for Him to accomplish His purpose. Nothing you do in service to the Lord is ever useless but will always serve a greater purpose. So don’t give up, keep serving the Lord with all your heart until His triumphant return.
