Every Christian is expected to put in their share of work to further the Kingdom of God. The way we do this may differ based on the individual gift we have each received from God. But in the end, we are all responsible for bringing others to faith in Jesus Christ. Fulfilling the great commission that Jesus gave to us before ascending into Heaven.
Matthew 28:19–20 (ESV)
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Mark 16:15 (ESV)
15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
At times it feels as though we have all the time in the world to complete this work. But we must realize that a day is coming when all work will cease. Including all the efforts made to grow God’s kingdom. Jesus himself taught on this very subject.
John 9:4 (ESV)
4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.
Jesus made that statement when He was asked about opening a blind man’s eyes. Similarly, Christians are tasked with opening the eyes of the spiritually blind. Helping them to finally see that God has always been there. And just like our Lord, we are working with a limited amount of time.
Limited by our age or even the age of the person we are called to reach. The sad truth is a life can end far quicker than we often expect it to. Not only are we fighting a losing battle against the time we have to live on earth. But the Lord could make His return at any moment. Taking all those who have received salvation to Heaven with Him. While all those who never turned their life to Christ are sentenced to destruction.
Daniel 12:1–2 (ESV)
1 “At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book. 2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt
Matthew 24:30–31 (ESV)
30 Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
No matter what it is that actually limits our time the truth is we all only have so much time to complete the work God has given us. It’s so important that every Christian has this realization. Because there are so many people that we meet, know, and love that need to receive salvation and the gift of eternal life.
Don’t waste the little bit of time you may have. Instead, take advantage of every second and start making disciples today. The truth is the work we have been assigned is not very difficult. Sadly we simply do not have enough people who are just willing to use the time they have to harvest the abundance of lost souls searching for answers.
Matthew 9:37 (ESV)
37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;
As you walk through the next few days remember this article and be mindful of the time you have. Realize that we only have so many opportunities to work and see life’s saved. Our own misuse of time could tragically result in a soul that could have been saved being forever lost.
Every day that goes by the end times draw closer and closer. Meaning the end is closer today than it has ever been before. Don’t push off your God-given work any longer. Start using the time you have left for something that truly matters and see multitudes come to salvation while they still can.
2 Timothy 3:1–2 (ESV)
1 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
