In today’s society, people go to church but most never really join The Church. At least not by Bible standards. They pick a church that they like and attend its services and stop there. According to Matthew 19:6, in order to be joined together by God two must become one. So in order to join God’s church, then we must become one with His church. When that happens God joins us together and now no man can separate us from God.

“WHEREFORE THEY ARE NO MORE TWAIN, BUT ONE FLESH. WHAT THEREFORE GOD HATH JOINED TOGETHER, LET NOT MAN PUT ASUNDER.”

MATTHEW 19:6

In Acts 18:7  we learn of a man that joined his house and God’s house together.

“AND HE DEPARTED THENCE, AND ENTERED INTO A CERTAIN MAN’S HOUSE, NAMED JUSTUS, ONE THAT WORSHIPPED GOD, WHOSE HOUSE JOINED HARD TO THE SYNAGOGUE”.

ACTS 18:7

So based off what we learned from Matthew 19:6. Justus’ house was not only next to the church but in a sense, had married the church. His spirit and The Spirit were now one.

ISAIAH 62:1-5

“1 FOR ZION’S SAKE WILL I NOT HOLD MY PEACE, AND FOR JERUSALEM’S SAKE I WILL NOT REST, UNTIL THE RIGHTEOUSNESS THEREOF GO FORTH AS BRIGHTNESS, AND THE SALVATION THEREOF AS A LAMP THAT BURNETH.

AND THE GENTILES SHALL SEE THY RIGHTEOUSNESS, AND ALL KINGS THY GLORY: AND THOU SHALT BE CALLED BY A NEW NAME, WHICH THE MOUTH OF THE LORD SHALL NAME.

THOU SHALT ALSO BE A CROWN OF GLORY IN THE HAND OF THE LORD, AND A ROYAL DIADEM IN THE HAND OF THY GOD.

THOU SHALT NO MORE BE TERMED FORSAKEN; NEITHER SHALL THY LAND ANY MORE BE TERMED DESOLATE: BUT THOU SHALT BE CALLED HEPHZIBAH, AND THY LAND BEULAH: FOR THE LORD DELIGHTETH IN THEE, AND THY LAND SHALL BE MARRIED.

FOR AS A YOUNG MAN MARRIETH A VIRGIN, SO SHALL THY SONS MARRY THEE: AND AS THE BRIDEGROOM REJOICETH OVER THE BRIDE, SO SHALL THY GOD REJOICE OVER THEE.”

In this passage, Zion is The Church. What we learn from this is that when you join Zion (The Church), you get a new name. No longer are you called Forsaken or Desolate. You are now called Hephzibah meaning “My Delight Is In Her”. You are now called Beulah meaning “Married, to marry, claimed as a wife”.

If we are going to become one with something, we need to know what it means to be that. Let’s look at some of the characteristics of The Church.

The Church is Holy

1 PETER 1:16 “BECAUSE IT IS WRITTEN, BE YE HOLY; FOR I AM HOLY.”

1 CORINTHIANS 1:2 “UNTO THE CHURCH OF GOD WHICH IS AT CORINTH, TO THEM THAT ARE SANCTIFIED IN CHRIST JESUS, CALLED TO BE SAINTS, WITH ALL THAT IN EVERY PLACE CALL UPON THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD, BOTH THEIR’S AND OUR’S:”

If we are to be The Church, we need to be holy. Simply because He is holy so we need to be holy. You may be asking yourself how can I be holy? I mean we are taught that we were born into sin so how can we be holy? The Bible tells us that in order to be holy, we need to separate ourselves from sin.

The Church is Loving

JOHN 13:35 “BY THIS SHALL ALL MEN KNOW THAT YE ARE MY DISCIPLES, IF YE HAVE LOVE ONE TO ANOTHER.”

ROMANS 12:10-13 “LOVE ONE ANOTHER WITH BROTHERLY AFFECTION. OUTDO ONE ANOTHER IN SHOWING HONOR. DO NOT BE SLOTHFUL IN ZEAL, BE FERVENT IN SPIRIT, SERVE THE LORD. REJOICE IN HOPE, BE PATIENT IN TRIBULATION, BE CONSTANT IN PRAYER. CONTRIBUTE TO THE NEEDS OF THE SAINTS AND SEEK TO SHOW HOSPITALITY.”

Your love for your fellow church members is an outward sign of your relationship with God. That being the case, we need to make sure that we are showing off that God-given love. As members of The Church that should be one of the first things that people notice about us.

The Church praises God

PSALMS 65:1 “PRAISE WAITETH FOR THEE, O GOD, IN SION: AND UNTO THEE SHALL THE VOW BE PERFORMED.”

PSALMS: 147: 12, “PRAISE THE LORD, O JERUSALEM; PRAISE THY GOD, O ZION.”

From these verses, we learn that Zion praises God. Since we are one with God’s church (Zion) we should be praising God. About 250 times the Bible commands or declare for us to praise God. That’s a lot! Sounds to me like that is something that is pretty important to God.
