Many things of God remain a mystery to us. But this doesn’t mean that absolutely everything is too great for us to comprehend. One aspect of our faith that many seem to believe is too great for us to understand is the day of judgment. But the truth is the Bible explains in great detail what we should expect on that day. Probably the greatest point made about judgment day is that all people shall be judged according to their actions in this life.

Ezekiel 33:20 (ESV)

20 Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ O house of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his ways.”

Ecclesiastes 12:14 (ESV)

14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

Revelation 20:12 (ESV)

12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.

It is so important that everyone understands this aspect of the judgment day. God is going to layout all you have done. Including what your motives were that drove your actions. Which means even if you did the right thing for the wrong reasons. Then this tool can and will be counted against you.

Thankfully we serve a merciful and forgiving God. He is not going to judge us based on the actions of our whole life. That is if we turned from our wicked ways to follow after righteousness. That being said we must know that if we live a righteous lifestyle for years but turn back to wickedness right before death that we will receive punishment and not pass the judgment.

Ezekiel 33:18-19 (ESV)

18 When the righteous turns from his righteousness and does injustice, he shall die for it. 19 And when the wicked turns from his wickedness and does what is just and right, he shall live by this.

Not only will all people be judged based on every one of our actions. We will also be judged based on the way we treated others in this life. God will evaluate whether or not you acted with mercy toward others, forgave others, and if you took judgment into your own hands.

James 2:13 (ESV)

13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Matthew 6:14-15 (ESV)

14 For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, 15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Matthew 7:2 (ESV)

2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.

The day of judgment is on the horizon for every single person to ever live. It is important that we know what to expect when we stand before God. Because if our name is not found when the Book of Life is opened then we will be sentenced to the lake of fire. Forever excluded from Heaven.

Revelation 20:15 (ESV)

15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

But please do not fret over being perfect. God knows what is in our hearts. Christians should have their mindset on doing all they can to walk in the light. Staying far from darkness. Not making a practice of sinning.

1 John 1:5-7 (ESV)

5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Matthew 5:6 (ESV)

6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
