About 5 years ago, I was frivolously sitting in my office at work. I happened to look down at the time and it was 8:18 in the morning. I had no doubt seen this time come across the clock many times in my life, but that morning I felt the Lord nudging me as I stared at those numbers.
The significance to those numbers are the fact that I was born on August 18, 1983. 8:18 – and I felt the convicting voice of the Lord saying. Son what are you doing with the time I’ve given you on Earth? It’s time to be about my business.
From that moment forward, every time I look and see 8:18, which seems to happen at a more swift rate, I can hear that voice asking me. What are you doing with the time I’ve given you? It keeps me aware that our days on earth are but a vapor.
Psalms 144:4 (NKJV)
Man is like a breath; His days [are] like a passing shadow.
Psalm 103:15,16 (NKJV)
15 [As for] man, his days [are] as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. 16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.
2 Samuel 14:14 (NKJV)
14 For we must needs die, and [are] as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect [any] person:
Don’t squander life by worrying about trivial pursuits with no eternal value. Let them go, and latch onto the things of God. Be as David and ask God to “teach [us] to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
Heed to the words of the Apostle Paul and, “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is”.
We’ve all got one chance at this thing called life. Let’s love God more than we ever have, and love people as He loves them. The Lord is soon to return for His Church, so we must ensure our families and those in our life circle are ready to make Heaven our home!
Blessings, JDS
