The Bible gives us scripture after scripture that shows people offering praise to the Lord. Many of those in the New Testament involve someone being healed. One that often comes to my mind is the man who was lame from birth and was given the ability to walk. The joy he experienced through being healed was so great he began running, jumping, and shouting. Offering praise to the Lord with everything he had.
Acts 3:6–8 (ESV)
6 But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” 7 And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. 8 And leaping up, he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.
This man actually seems to have caused quite the ruckus as he entered the temple with Peter and John. As the scripture tells us that he quickly gained the attention of all the people in the temple.
Acts 3:9 (ESV)
9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God,
This man praised the Lord for what he received through a miracle. But we through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus have received something far greater than being healed. We have been gifted eternal life in Heaven. Where the pain and suffering of this life will no longer exist.
Revelation 21:4 (ESV)
4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Everyone at one time or another has sinned and all people spend time on the path headed for destruction. Walking down the road to hell and eternal punishment. But God gave us a way out and saved us from the punishment we deserve.
Our salvation is the greatest reason we have to rejoice. It is better than any healing or any power we are able to receive through the Holy Ghost. The sheer fact that our name is written in the book of life should cause us to praise God.
Luke 10:20 (ESV)
20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Our joy should be so much greater than the person who received their sight or walked for the first time after thirty years. Yes, they received an amazing blessing from God but the blessing that every saved Christian has received greatly overshadows those small blessings as they only affect this life.
Our blessing effects this life and the next. Christians never die but are simply ushered into the glorious presence of the Lord. Where they will spend eternity without any worries or fears. That is a reason to have great joy every time we think about what God has done for us.
Joy that should lead to praise that goes beyond simply being happy but shows itself through some running, jumping and shouting! Don’t allow the undeserved blessing of salvation and eternal life to become mundane in your life. Show the Lord how truly thankful you are by giving Him all the praise He is worthy of.
Psalm 145:3 (ESV)
3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
and his greatness is unsearchable.
If a simple blessing that only effects the short time we spend on earth can cause someone to start running, jumping, and shouting. How much more should every Christian be willing to do since they have been blessed for eternity with the forgiveness of sins and a seat at the table in Heaven?
Don’t look at those who praise our great God by running, jumping, and shouting as over the top or crazy. But know that they are exceedingly thankful and full of joy for all the great things God has done for them. And you should feel the very same way! Start running, jumping, and shouting for the Lord with them and give God all the praise He is worthy of!
