The Bible tells us that God hears our prayers. He is willing to answer them and meet our needs. We are instructed to pray for so many different people every day. But in times like we are now facing there are so many people that need to be added to our prayer list.
Some of these people you would be quick to pray for in a time like this, but there are others that you may not be quick to remember. Yet they still need your prayers and possibly need them even more. Through this article, we hope to expand your prayer list by bringing to remembrance certain demographics of people that you may have forgotten.
That being said we are not perfect and it is possible that a demographic you believe is in need of prayer is not listed below. If that is the case please leave a comment telling us about the missing group of people. So that we and others that read this article can add them to our prayer lists. In a time like this, it is important that we cover everyone across the world in a thick blanket of prayer.
Leadership At All Levels
1 Timothy 2:1–3 (ESV)
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior
I am sure that you already have various leaders that are a part of your life on your prayer list. Like the president, your employer, your pastor and so on which is great. However, it is important that we all take the time to pray for people at every level of leadership. Even if they do not directly affect us.
The truth is so many leaders are having to make very tough decisions right now. Decisions that affect large numbers of people. We must pray and ask God to help them. Asking that He grants them the wisdom that only He can make the right choices in these tough situations that almost no one has had to face before.
Simply ask God to be with the leaders of our world. Guiding them to make a decision that will work for the greater good. Whether these people even know it or not they need God to be with them.
Medical Professionals
Those in the medical field are currently in great need of our prayers. As they are on the front lines doing all they can to combat this deadly virus. It’s important that we take the time to pray for their health and well being. They are at a far greater risk of contracting this virus than the average person.
That being said we must not only pray for the nurses and doctors. While they do require special prayer. Needing God to guide their hands as they care for so many sick patients. Christians must not neglect the many other positions in the medic field that are in need of our prayers.
All those who work in hospitals from the janitors to the CEOs need our prayers at this time. As they are working hard every day to do all they can to provide the sick with the best level of care possible. Pray for these people as if it was you under their care as you battle the coronavirus.
Those With Preexisting Conditions
While those who have contracted the coronavirus are at top of our mind right now. There are still millions of sick people across the world who need your prayers. Those who have been fighting sickness longer than we have even been aware of the coronavirus.
Due to their various illnesses, so many people are even more subject to contracting the virus. They are even more likely to not recover due to their preexisting conditions. Medical professionals are of course doing all they can to keep them away from those infected. But they still need your prayers.
Add them to your prayer list and call them out before the Lord daily. Ask God to keep His hand of protection on them. Pray that God will also keep them from worry and stress but will grant them the kind of peace that only comes from Him.
Philippians 4:7 (ESV)
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Displaced Workers
While many employers have made it possible for their employees to work from home that is not the case for everyone. Many have been sent home without pay. Unsure when or even if they will be able to return. Others have been laid off as employers simply don’t know what the future is going to look like.
It’s hard to imagine the amount of stress those in this situation must be going through right now. So Christians need to bind together and bring these people before the Lord. Praying that God will be with them and that they will find a way to keep moving forward.
Those Outside The USA
Let the media say what it will but the truth is all those who are able to call the United States of America’s home are blessed beyond measure. Our healthcare system may have its fair share of problems but we are much more prepared to battle a pandemic such as this than many other countries.
So when you are going through your prayer list everyday remember those who are not as fortunate as you. Those who do not have the same access to doctors and medicine that you do. That don’t have the same access to food that many of us in the US do. Pray the Lord will be with them and keep them from this very deadly virus.
The Elderly
The elderly population is in need of prayer right now for two major reasons. Of course, they have a higher risk of contracting the virus and subsequently a higher chance of not recovering. So Christians need to offer up prayers for those advanced in age asking God to keep them healthy.
At the same time due to the higher risk associated with the elderly many assisted living facilities have had to close their doors to all guests. This even includes family members. Leaving them in a state of loneliness that most cannot imagine. Add them to your prayer list. Ask God to comfort them and be with them through this very tough and trying time.
Other Believers
The prayer list of every Christian should also include other believers. It may be easy to overlook other Christians in this time but we are all in need of prayer. Especially when the world is rapidly changing.
Also as churches are unable to offer their normal in-person services due to safety concerns. Many find themselves in a situation they have never been in before. Which could have major effects on their walk with God.
It’s important that we take the time to pray for other believers that are facing the same situations we are. Other Christians also need prayer for health and safety. Take time to ask God to keep others on the right track and free from temptation. Pray that the lack of fellowship won’t take a toll on them. Ask the Lord to help them find new ways to stay engaged with their church family.
The Lost
We do not know what the future is going to hold. That’s a lesson we have all had to come to grips with recently. But we do know one thing that waits for all of us in the future. That is death and it is something that will take every one of us eventually. But praise be to God that we know that those who have placed their faith in Christ and live according to His word will receive eternal life in Heaven.
John 3:16 (ESV)
16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
That’s why so many Christians are able to have hope in a time like this. We know that this is only temporary and will not be able to affect our eternity. But those who are lost do not share in this hope as they don’t know God. They are living in fear because they believe that this virus could be the end of everything for them.
So it’s time that Christians really start crying out for the lost in their times of prayer. Praying that God will lead them to salvation. That He will put someone in their life at this time to share the gospel with them. So they too will not have to fear death and can walk in the peace that only comes from knowing the Lord.
We know that God responds to these kinds of prayer because He too does not want to see anyone perish. God wants all people to turn to Him and receive salvation. So add the lost to your prayer list and bring them before the Lord. They have the greatest need out of any group on this list. As the prayers they need are not just for this life only but the next. To save them from the fires.
1 Timothy 2:4 (ESV)
4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Peter 3:9 (ESV)
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
How To Pray For All Those Listed
While we have tried to give a small insight into what you can pray for each of these demographics it can still be hard to find the words when it’s time to pray. But the truth is you know what you need right now and others are no different. Make your prayers for others like you would your own. As God to keep them healthy, to lead them, comfort them, and just be with them as we all travail this tough time.
Also now that your prayer list has jumped in size you may fill overwhelmed. Like you will have to spend hours in prayer just to fit everyone in. But that does not have to be the case. Remember God knows what you need before you ask it and that long-winded prayers don’t make the greatest difference. Just do your best to call out everyone you can and even use their names if you now specific people that fit these groups.
Matthew 6:7–8 (ESV)
7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Don’t Stop After It’s Over
While we are asking you to add all these people to their prayer list because of the current circumstances we face. Don’t believe that when we come out on the other side you no longer need to pray for these various people. Truthfully everyone listed in this article faces tough situations daily. Even when the world is not facing a pandemic.
So once this is over keep praying for them. Continue to call them out before the Lord in your time of daily prayer. There is no telling what God will do in their life because of your continued prayer.
Speaking of which there is a great reason to pray for all these people and anyone else in need. Prayer is powerful. It is how we speak with directly God and when we speak to Him we know He hears us. Not only does He hear but He is willing to respond. Prayer is able to lead to healing. Scripture even says prayer can move mountains so it should have no problem moving the coronavirus.
1 John 5:14–15 (ESV)
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
James 5:15 (ESV)
15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Matthew 17:20 (ESV)
20 He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
