The coronavirus continues to grow all across the world and many people are starting to ask some very tough questions. Some want to know why has God allowed this to happen. Other ask, some even proclaim, is God behind this pandemic. More than anything people simply want to know where God is while this virus is taking the lives of so many.
The truth is we can’t give an accurate Bible-based answer to some of these questions. The Bible does not speak of the coronavirus specifically. So we can’t say why God has allowed it to happen. All we can say to that is that God has a purpose in this and it is one that we would never truly be able to understand. As we do not have the privilege of seeing how one thing can affect millions of other things.
Nor can we say if God is the one behind this outbreak. The Bible shows that the Lord has used illnesses in the past, but this could also be another effect caused by sin entering the world. Something that can trace its roots all the way back to the day Adam and Eve first ate of the fruit in the garden. Simply put we can’t and just don’t know.
However, there is one thing that we know for certain. We know exactly where God is while all this is taking place. He is right here among His people walking with them through it all. Because the Bible tells us He will never leave us or forsake us. Something said in the Old Testament that still applies today in so many ways.
Deuteronomy 31:6 (ESV)
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5 (ESV)
5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
It may feel as though God has turned His back on the world and is nowhere to be found in trying times such as these. But that is just not the case, the Lord is among us all. To all those that have received the gift of the Holy Ghost God is everywhere you are. He dwells within you and you are His holy temple.
Acts 2:38 (ESV)
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 3:16 (ESV)
16 Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 6:19 (ESV)
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
Don’t ask where God is but realize that everywhere a believer is God is there. But it goes further than that because scripture says God is never far from the brokenhearted. He stands close to those who have been crushed in their spirt and is ready to revive them!
Psalms 34:18 (ESV)
18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
God is never far from anyone but is also close by ready to respond when they call on His name. No matter who they are, where they are, or what they have done God is standing at the ready. Just waiting to offer them forgiveness of their sin and the glorious gift of eternal life.
We know this to be true because that has been the case for every single Christian. God was right there when we turned to Him. As well as the fact that the Lord does not want to see anyone perish but wants all people to be saved.
1 Timothy 2:4 (ESV)
4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Peter 3:9 (ESV)
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
Paul writes about the endless love that God has for His people. Telling that nothing can ever separate us from that love. A lesson that could not be more true and one that applies not only to those who believe. That same love applies to every single person no matter what they have done. God still loves them just the same and nothing will ever change that. Because they are His creation whether they know it or not.
Romans 8:38-39 (ESV)
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Don’t find yourself asking where God is but know beyond a shadow of a doubt where He is, all around us. Living and making His home in those who believe. Standing next to those who are hurting. Waiting patiently and close to all those who are lost at the ready to grant them salvation. That is where God is amidst the coronavirus and that is where He will remain throughout all time.
