Everyone is chasing after peace in their own way. Attempting to escape the stress, worry, and fear that is all too common in the world. Many try to reach a state of peace by getting all their work done so they can relax or by taking a vacation. Others seek peace through forms of mediation or doing what they like. While still others chase it at the bottom of a bottle or any number of other vices that only work to mask the pain. The truth is no matter what we do to find peace we will never know true peace without knowing God. The Bible is clear that there is not, nor will ever be, any rest for the wicked and lost.
Isaiah 48:22 (ESV)
22 “There is no peace,” says the Lord, “for the wicked.”
Isaiah 57:21 (ESV)
21 There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.”
So often we believe that we will be able to capture a state of peace by what we do. Yet any peace we are able to obtain seems to vanish just as quick as it came. Then we are right back where we started. Caught up in all the stress and worry of life. It seems like some great mystery. As if mankind is never meant to obtain lasting peace in life. That is the case for those who have no relationship with the Bible. Because in its pages we are able to see the way for all people to live in peace.
Psalm 29:11 (ESV)
11 May the Lord give strength to his people!
May the Lord bless his people with peace!
Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)
3 You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
John 14:27 (ESV)
27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
Life long peace only comes from God. It often defies our understanding and we can’t even explain why we seem to be at peace in every situation. You see it is not simply peace from no longer experiencing hardships in life. Instead, it’s that the hardships you face no longer affect you as they would have before your faith. We must remember that the Bible is very clear every Christian will suffer hardships to some extent.
2 Timothy 3:12 (ESV)
12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
The peace we experience as Christians is a free gift from our Creator. It’s something noticeable after salvation. Causing the things that used to affect us to simply roll off our backs. Many find that the sleep that used to elude now comes with ease after salvation. No longer do they find themselves lying awake thinking about the events of the day or what is waiting for them in the next. God gives us peace freely and strengthens it through His word.
Scripture gives the believer every reason to not have worry, stress, or fear in their life. Studying the Bible helps us see God fully and is able to give full peace of mind to those willing to submit themselves to God. Scripture shows the love God has for His people. Stating that we can cast all our worries on Him in prayer. In fact, we are told not to even worry about what we will eat for God will provide for those who first seek the kingdom of God.
1 Peter 5:7 (ESV)
7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Philippians 4:6–7 (ESV)
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Christian peace is also found in knowing they have no need to worry about sickness and disease. For the Bible says that healing comes through prayer. But even if we are not healed we still have a reason to be at peace. Because we know that living means living for Christ and dying means meeting Him face to face. By allowing us to peek into the future and see where we are going, God has given us every reason to face even death fully at peace.
James 5:14–15 (ESV)
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
Philippians 1:21 (ESV)
21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
2 Corinthians 5:1 (ESV)
5 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
You may be able to experience moments of peace in your life without a relationship with your Creator. But you will never know true peace until you come to a right relationship with God. Do you want to experience the peace that only comes from the Lord? Are you becoming weary and tired from trying to chase peace in the world? Then come to God and He will give you the rest you desire.
Matthew 11:28 (ESV)
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Place all your faith and hope in the Lord Jesus Christ who gave up His life so you could have life more abundantly. Follow the Biblical plan of salvation. Repent of your sins, be baptized in His name, and receive His spirit. Allow the God of peace to enter your life and give you a sense of peace you have never felt before. Which will allow you to walk through any situation without worry or fear.
Matthew 11:28 (ESV)
28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Acts 2:37–38 (ESV)
37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” 38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
