The Bible is meant to instruct Christians on how to live a righteous life. It teaches what we should do and how to do it. Prayer is taught throughout the Bible. Both through direct instruction as well as examples of proper prayer. There are actually many Bible verses that make great additions to our own daily prayer.
Below, you will find five Bible verses that I have incorporated into my prayer life over the years. They are all impactful and if prayed are able to greatly affect your walk with God. These verses can be prayed daily or on an as-needed basis.
Ultimately your prayer life is yours and you can pray and talk to God in whatever way you see fit. But I do believe that anyone would benefit from adding these scriptures to their prayers. And if you are just beginning to pray more the following verses are a great foundation for proper prayer life.
Psalm 139:23-24 (KJV)
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
This verse is a great addition to your prayer because is it possible for there to be things hiding in us that we do not even realize. And the only way we can address such an issue is to have God show us. While also helping us to overcome whatever issue there may be. The goal of a Christian is to live a righteous life and that cannot be done with secret sin in our lives. So we must ask God to point that out to us and lead us away from it.
Proverbs 30:8-9 (KJV)
8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
9 Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
The Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10). So most Christians realize that they should not live a life focused on money. But few realize how a complete lack of money can also be a problem.
This scripture simply asks God to give you enough. Not too much and not too little but exactly what you need to be filled. I recommend people pray this verse because once you are able to reach the balance point in life you are able to focus more on God. While also being sure not to fall into sin based off of your financial situation.
James 1:5 (KJV)
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Who does not need more wisdom? We all have to make hard decisions in life or want to better understand the Bible and our creator. What’s awesome is that this verse tells us that if we pray and ask God for the wisdom He will give it liberally. And I can tell you from experience God always supplies wisdom when asked.
So what are you needing wisdom for? To better understand the Bible? To make a decision in a tough situation? Or just to grow as a person? Whatever the need is simply ask God for the wisdom needed and He will provide. In fact, this is a verse that recommends everyone prays daily. Because you can never have too much wisdom.
Psalm 51:10 (KJV)
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
A clean heart and a right spirit are two things that every Christian needs. And by praying this verse that is exactly what you are asking God to place in your life. This is a great verse to add to your prayer on a regular basis. Our heart is almost like a sponge and can often pick up things from our surroundings. When that happens we need to have God clean us out or else we may fall back into sin.
A wrong spirit is something many of us have from time to time and can cause a multitude of issues in our lives. From a bad attitude to sinful actions. But through this prayer, we are able to catch either of these issues before they are able to get out of hand.
Luke 11:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
It would not be right to create a list of Bible verse to incorporate into your prayers and not include Jesus’s example of how we should pray. This section of scripture actually gives us two options. We can either choose to pray the prayer just as it is recorded.
Or we can use this example of prayer as a form for our personal prayers. So you would begin by praising the Lord and asking for His will to be done. Then make your requests known unto God. Then ask for forgiveness for the sins you have committed. And finish by asking God to keep you from sin.
No matter how you decided to incorporate this prayer into your life you simply can’t go wrong. I actually tend to use both methods interchangeably simply depending on where I am lead on any given day.
Now Use Them in Your Prayer Life
Now that you have read through this article it would be a great time to stop and just talk to God. Use these verses and see how God responds to your prayer. God gave us these words for our use and there is no better us then to use them to communicate back to God.
